Ian Ruhter has just released a short piece about his latest grand project. Mostly known for his snowboard photography, particularly for Forum Snowboard ads, he has been shooting challenging subjects with view cameras for a long time. Its seems fitting that he has moved on to wet-plate work. The first I have seen of his wet-plate work was for this winter’s Foursquare campaign. Some of it is truly spectacular and some of it is a little worn, as what happens when you take on a 200-year-old technique. It makes it hard to find new territory. But, with his latest project, Ruhter, has certainly broken new ground: outfitting a van as a view camera in order to capture massive wet-plate shots of people, landscapes, nature, skateboarding and whatever else captures his imagination, I’m sure. You can follow him at ianruhter.tumblr.com and see his other work on his website, ianruhter.com. I hope he shows his work soon. I would love to see these in person. They must be stunning.
